OmniOutliner Pro has a 1 year Apple site license from installation date. BBEdit comes with a pre-licensed serial. Office 2004 is the Apple Internal Edition. MacOS users may want to try MacGhostView which works better on one of my files than the MacGS version of Ghostscript.

and I've tried the PDF route on that particular file with horrible results. An online converter may well be able to convert that eps to PDF. I have one application other than AI that can open that EPS faithfully. AD cannot open the AI portion nor open an AI file that is not saved with PDF compatibility. The reason why the AI file can be opened is because it was saved as a PDF compatibility (Illy's default) and AD is only opening the PDF portion of the AI file. The reason why that EPS can be opened faithfully in AI is because most of the guts of it is pure AI data in the private data section. I attached the original EPS I had downloaded from my subscription site and the AI file I saved out from illustrator so you can see for yourself. So I have been searching for an app that can convert EPS files to AI or other to fill the void until Serif can resolve the issue internally. The funny thing is that if I open the EPS file into Illustrator and save it out as an AI file instead and then open it into AD, it works 100% awesome! But, obviously that is not a viable solution. I really want to cancel my Adobe CC account, but detail issues like this make is so difficult to step away. the copy and paste works great and you understand the crappy work-around that I figured out last night which was convert the EPS to a PDF and then it places or opens better - not without problems, but better. This is exactly the problem I am explaining - thank you! The screen shots I took show what it looks like in wireframe.

However, there may well be certain features written into the EPS that is AI data so AI can interpret properly. That is because an eps file cannot contain such items.
I cannot tell from the screen shots with the graphic in AI, but if there certain transparencies used on the gradients, certain blend modes, and if there are any mesh fills, AD will always rasterize upon import. word seems to frequently take whatever crummy preview it has and use that instead of the beautiful vector graphics in an eps (and i suspect pdf too) i have successfully forced it to look good even on my lowly inkjet by following the three steps below: 1.
